Get Ready Trainers for the Latest Generation of Pokémon Cards with Scarlet & Violet

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company (TPCi) have released the latest generation of Pokémon cards, prominently featuring new Pokémon introduced to the series in the recent Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games. The new cards come with some significant changes that have improved clarity, making it easier to recognize cards at a glance. These changes include silver borders replacing yellow borders, black box letter/number codes replacing set symbols, and Trainer cards now categorized into Supporter, Tool, Item, and Stadium categories.

The pull rates for Scarlet & Violet are lower than previous sets, with one in four packs containing non-standard cards. However, the number of regular foil cards in every pack has doubled, with each pack guaranteed to have at least two reverse holos and one regular holo card. These changes make it easier to complete a “master set” and improve the cards' value, both monetarily and in desirability.
The new ex cards are likely to cause a stir, with high HPs and damage levels. A big change in this set is that some ex cards can only be played as evolutions, making them even more powerful. The new Trainer cards aren’t making a spectacular difference in this base set, but the Defiance Band Tool card seems like it could get a lot of play. Additionally, Team Star Grunt allows players to take an energy card attached to the opponent’s active Pokémon and put it on top of their deck.
Overall, Scarlet & Violet cushions the blow of lower pull rates with guaranteed holos, extra reverse-holos, and special art that maintains the high standards. Despite this, it is a set designed to refocus attention on playing the game itself, introducing the reinvented ex model while maintaining everything else to ensure a smooth transition for players.
In addition to the new cards, the store hosts weekly events, including tournaments on Tuesday at 7 pm, gym leader challenge on the second Tuesday of every month, and learn-to-play on Sundays from 1 pm to 3 pm, which is great for parents and kids to learn together. Another tournament runs at 3 pm on Sundays.
Visit the store to pick up your Scarlet & Violet cards and join in on the weekly events for a chance to meet other players, learn to play, and participate in tournaments.
