The historians of Arcania refer to the dragon Pontifex as The Precious Father. He is one of the most ancient and rare species of all known dragons. The precious metal gold is said to be the fragment of his shed scales ground to bits over millennia.
Pontifex grew bored with centuries of time bound existence and abandoned the mortals of Arcania through the Wyrm Gate. Here, Pontifex is a living furnace of power and growing arcane knowledge. He watches Arcania for a time when he can return to collect the fabled Dragon Shields and rule all dragons earthly and otherwise, which will be easier without the kingdoms of men in the way.
